News of the Great War

To mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War, the Flemish Government has initiated a project to make the newspaper archive collections held by the Heritage Library and thirteen other cultural-heritage organizations (including the In Flanders Fields Museum) more readily accessible to the public. Newspapers are an important source for exploring and understanding what life in Belgium was like during the war years.

The Flemish Institute for Archiving (VIAA) has been working for the past two years to inventarize and digitalize more than 360,000 pages of fragile source materials, which can now be consulted online.
