More info

Every year the In Flanders Fields Museum has one or two dossier exhibitions. These exhibitions highlight a specific aspect of the First World War, or an exceptional part of the collection. In the accompanying files, the subject is worked out by experts.

The central theme of this museum file is a special form of trench art: decorated leaves, oak leaves, particularly, (sweet) chestnut leaves, occasionally. Since mainly - not to say almost exclusively - French examples of this particular discipline are known, it was decided to refer to them as 'Feuilles de Poilus', for the nickname given to French soldiers in the First World War.
