Les Enfants de l'Yser

At the beginning of May 1915, the Belgian government opted to evacuate as many children as possible from the danger zone of the front region abroad. Approximately 10000 boys and girls between the ages of three and sixteen were transferred to school colonies in France and Switzerland. These children went down in history as Les Enfants de l'Yser. Ghislain Kuyle from Poperinge unlocked his years of research into the children, the teachers and the monastic orders in these school colonies via a website. The Research Centre will preserve this important result, complete it and make it available to the public.
