About

On 1 October 2021, museum director Piet Chielens retired. He was appointed coordinator of the In Flanders Fields Museum in 1996. Before that he had brought the First World War and the consequences for the Westhoek region to a wide and interested audience through a number of Peace Concerts. His knowledge of and passion for the power of music have always remained strongly present in the public activities of the museum.

Music and War

is a temporary exhibition that focuses on musical instruments from the First World War (whether or not self-made), on traces of music in personal diaries and on scores and photographs from the museum's collection and that of private collector Philippe Oosterlinck. In addition, several pieces from the archives of the Peace Concerts and from 25 years of musical museum programming are on display.
