About

Between 24 and 26 October 2022, the Russian army looted thousands of archaeological, historical and religious objects from the Regional Historical Museum of Cherson, Ukraine. Just after the liberation of the city the Ukrainian artist duo Yarema Malashchuk & Roman Khimei made a short film.

The video shows the empty plinths and display cases of the looted museum. In the voiceover, the artists describe the stolen objects. The sound of shelling echoes in the background. The film is a poignant ode to the importance of cultural heritage just through its absence.

From 18 May, International Museum Day, you can see the short film simultaneously in five Belgian museums: Art & History Museum in Brussels, STAM in Ghent, The Domain and Royal Museum of Mariemont, M in Leuven and In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres.
