School visit

We are Ann-Sophie, Sien and Wouter. Together with an enthusiastic group of educational volunteers, we are the learning team of the In Flanders Fields Museum. Our job is to make the complex history of the First World War accessible to teachers and their students. From workshops to day trips, we have developed a wide range of educational programmes for different age groups, both inside the museum and across the surrounding area.

when will we ever learn...

Pete Seger

---

Wars never stand on their own.
They seem to possess tentacles that grow
almost imperceptibly,
until they get along elsewhere and fire again
into new conflicts.
We can't afford to be blind
for the forces that a hundred years ago
triggered the machinery of fate.
By doing so, we would be denying ourselves
the possibility to discover patterns in the past
that can help us learn lessons for the present and the future.

To enhance your visit to the museum, the learning team offers numerous activities according to the age of your group.

The educational program provides opportunities to prepare your museum visit at school, or to look back on it afterwards. You can enhance your visit with activities inside and outside the museum. With an educational workshop, a town walk, or a guided bicycle or bus tour you can elaborate a full day trip into the Ypres area.

You can book the chosen activities together with your group visit, at least one month before your visit.

Situated in the heart of the Ypres battlefield and housed inside the rebuilt Cloth Hall, the museum is the ideal starting point for your school trip to the region. Climbing the belfry is rewarded with a bird’s-eye view of the former Salient.
